Pubic lice are also know as crabs and are tiny
parasitic insects that live in coarse body hair, most commonly pubic
hair.
Adult pubic lice are about 2mm long (smaller than a match head) and are
a yellow-grey colour.
They have six legs, but the two pairs of back legs are much larger and
look like the pincer claws of a crab (they use them for grasping hair),
hence the nickname crabs.
It can take several weeks after coming into contact with pubic lice
before signs and symptoms appear.
- However you may feel itchiness around your genital
area
- You may be able to see dark brown or black powder on
your skin or in your underwear - these are louse droppings.
- If you have light skin, you may also see blue spots
on your skin where the lice are living, particularly on the thighs and
lower abdomen. The blue spots are caused by bites from the lice
To dected if you have Pubic Lice go to your G.P or to GUM clinic who
will examine you. If you do have pubic lice treatment is easy all you
