COC Pill – Combined PillThe combined oral contraceptive pill is usually just called the pill, or COC. It contains two hormones - estrogens and progestogen. These are similar to natural hormones women produce in their ovaries - if taking the combined Pill you will still have a period every month.The most common types of COC pill are Mircrogynon and Cilest. POP Pill – Progestogen PillThe Progestogen Pill is usually called the Mini pill or POP. It contains one hormone – progestogen, which is similar to natural hormones women produce in their ovaries - with the Progestogen Pill you may have irregular periods or no periods at all.The most common types of POP pills are Cerazette and Femulen. POPs need to be taken everyday. They will not protect you if you are over 3 hours late taking it (12 hours with Cerazette) If you have sex you will then need to use a condom for the next 2-7 days depending on the pill you are on.
