Welcome to our Contraception section, here we aim to give you some information on the different methods of contraception available. The choice is yours, only you know what would suit you and your lifestyle best. Our YAS team are able to help and advise you. See our example below of what choices one couple had:

Situation: Kate is 15, she's been going out with Paul for 6 months, they both want to have sex but are not sure what contraception is best for both of them or where to go and get it. As Kate is under 16, she is worried that if she goes to her Doctor he will tell her mum. They both want to sort this out, because they've been close to having sex a few times already. Should they risk it?

Solution: Kate could go to her Doctor even though she is under 16; the Doctor is not obliged to tell her parents. Kate and Paul can also come to the Youth Advice Shop where they can receive confidential advice and support about contraception and any other worries they may have. The nurses and doctors at YAS can provide all types of contraception and will discuss any health problems so that a safe method is chosen. If Kate and Paul decide not to go and get contraception and have sex then they risk pregnancy and a sexual transmitted infection and, a whole month of stress and worry waiting for Kate’s period.

REMEMBER! - Not everyone is having sex, even if they tell you they are!
