Hepatitis B is a viral infection of the liver and is
highly infectious (100 times more infectious than HIV). The virus is
present in blood, saliva, semen and vaginal fluids and is mainly passed
on through unprotected sex with an infected person or by drug users
sharing needles and injecting equipment.
After the virus enters the body there are no symptoms for 1-6 months.
In some people the virus only causes a mild illness so you may not be
aware that you have it. It can also cause serious illness where the
liver does not work properly causing jaundice ( yellowing of the skin
and eyes).
There are many hepatitis viruses. The main ones are A, B,C, D, E.
